Problem: Software intended to perform electronic testing across a network didn't work.
Communication between the computers on the network was erratic. Test programs ran at inappropriate times or didn't run. Incorrect data was transmitted between computers. Sometimes reports were produced and sometimes they weren't.
Task: Do whatever was needed to salvage this high-profile project that was teetering on the brink of failure.
An examination of the code involved disclosed severely convoluted logic filled with intermingled exceptions and special cases. The code was not worth saving.
The Result:
In one week we designed proper logic and recoded the software. The resulting software functioned for the duration of the project (ten years). It easily accomodated new requirements that arose throughout that time.
